Acoustics

 

Acoustic design refers to the planning and construction of an environment in terms of acoustics. Make the environment meet the requirements of users or national standards. Generally speaking, acoustic design is more focused on rooms and halls. A room with good acoustic design cannot be built in one go. There are many factors to consider, and multiple tests and modifications are required to meet the requirements.

 

Scope of coverage:

1) Reverberation time

As long as there is space in the room, there will be reverberation. So the length of reverberation time is crucial. It will affect the clarity of language in a room. The appropriate reverberation time also has a significant impact on human hearing and psychology.

2) Frequency response

A uniform frequency response in a room will make the sound you speak and hear appear incredibly natural. On the contrary, if the frequency response of a room is defective, it will hinder your speech. For example, if the low-frequency response in the room is too high, then your speech will be buzzing and feel very cloudy. Of course, the frequency response of a room is closely related to the reverberation time.

 

Applications of Acoustics:

Today, the application scope of acoustics is becoming increasingly wide, playing a crucial role in military, medical, architectural and other fields, especially architectural acoustics, which has been a key subject of research for architects. The Grand Theatre is widely recognized as the most technically challenging building in the world, and the construction of acoustic systems is the core difficulty. Therefore, sound effects have become an important criterion for evaluating the level of a Grand Theatre.

 

Other acoustic issues:

The room may also produce acoustic problems such as standing waves, vibration echoes, and sound focusing. All of these need to be measured and resolved during acoustic design. Only in this way can the room have a good acoustic environment.

 

Standard:

The "Code for Acoustic Design of Theater, Cinema and Multipurpose Hall Buildings" is now approved as a national standard, numbered GB/T50356-2005, and will be implemented from October 1, 2005. This standard is published and distributed by China Construction Industry Press organized by the Standard Quota Research Institute of the Ministry of Construction.  

 

Design case:

The theater meets the functions of academic presentations, large-scale conferences, and stage performances, all of which are designed to serve these three requirements. The acoustic indicators of high-level performance spaces mainly include two aspects: one is good indoor sound quality, that is, a reasonable reverberation time; The second is lower background noise. The acoustic design of the entire theater revolves around the above two aspects. The theater has 800 seats, and in terms of acoustic design, it ensures the clarity and fullness of the language in the hall, that is, there is sufficient sound field intensity and high language clarity and fullness at various positions in the hall. We have made the ceiling of the theater into a wavy curved surface using UGRG. The curvature and angle are carefully designed to ensure that the sound from the stage can be evenly reflected to every corner of the audience hall. The side walls of the theater are decorated with wood, which has a good reflection effect on sound. The back walls are decorated with Pat sound-absorbing panels, which not only have a decorative and aesthetic effect but also have a sound-absorbing effect.

 

In order to achieve more accurate design, we have established an acoustic design model room with the following design objectives:

①The reverberation time of the audience seats is between 9-1.1.  

②The audience seats C80 are all between 1-4db.  

③Clarity meets 50% -60%
